For 80 years, UN member states have been promising to protect the world's population from war. 

Today, the world is more insecure than it has been for a long time. The law of the strongest prevails, which has dramatic consequences for the weakest. Dozens of armed conflicts are raging around the world - more than at any time since the Second World War.

As a member and host state of the United Nations, Switzerland shares responsibility for the realization of the right to peace and security enshrined in the UN Charter.

We therefore urge the Federal Council to ensure the protection of all people from armed violence and terror within the framework of international law and in international cooperation, to end wars with effective measures, to organize compensation and to preventively reduce future risks of war.

In view of the UN Security Council's limited capacity to act, we also call on the Federal Council to advocate a review conference to reform the UN Charter in order to ensure the right to protection under international law in the long term.
